Joan Mazat has accepted the position of head of Ball Ingenuity, transitioning her position from Supply Chain Manager for Ball Seed. Her experience as Senior Business Manager for Geraniums, Poinsettias, Cut Flowers and Potted Plants created excellent knowledge of the industry to continue the development and promotion of new products in Ball Ingenuity. Joan joined Ball Seed in 1999 and has had positions in Customer and Supplier Relations.
DARWIN PERENNIALS
Leland Toering has accepted the newly created position of Sales and Marketing Manager for Darwin Perennials. Leland was as a Regional Supply Manager for Ball Seed from 2009-2013. Since January 2014, he’s served as Customer Service and Inside Sales Manager for Ball Australia. Leland will develop and support Darwin’s sales activities through its distribution network with Ball Seed and Star Roses & Plants.
LURIE GARDEN
Laura Ekasetya has been named director and head horticulturist of the Lurie Garden in Chicago’s Millennium Park. She steps into the role held recently by Dr. Scott Stewart, who was named executive director of Millennium Park Foundation in late 2016.
In her new position, Laura is responsible for Lurie Garden’s management and direction, and its reputation as one of the world’s leading examples of a four-season, sustainable public garden in an urban setting. Lurie Garden welcomes more than four million visitors annually.
Laura regularly shares her knowledge with others and extends her advocacy for public green spaces to neighborhood community gardens throughout Chicago. When not tending to Lurie Garden, she volunteers with Slow Food Chicago and other related groups. She’s a member of several industry organizations, including the American Public Gardens Association, Illinois Landscape Contractors Association and the International Society of Arboriculture.
PLEASANT VIEW GARDENS
Pleasant View Gardens announced that Abigail Nisbet has been promoted to Product & Program Specialist.
For the past two years, Abigail has been a member of the Quality Control & Inventory Control department at Pleasant View. Her main responsibilities included ensuring accurate inventory availability and certifying that all plant material met high quality standards.
